40 Films in Robotech: Dracula (1931) and Robotech Novels Universe and Robotech Stories award a son of Digging Star Wars the Robotech "Future of Fandom" Award

Dracula was one of the first new-to-me watches as I developed 40 Films in Robotech.

 ROBOTECH MENTION:

In his novelization of the Robotech television episodes, author Jack McKinney often implemented both popular and classic films to explain what was going on in various characters’ minds. In his book Metamorphosis (1987), McKinney shares this description of an Invid Hive’s interior as seen by Rand and Annie. This scene takes place in Robotech Episode 72 entitled The Fortress

"Bats" + "Bela Lugosi" = Dracula (1931).

 SYNOPSIS:

TCM synopsis, as it appears in the Verizon Guide, reads: “A real-estate man (Dwight Frye) visits the Transylvania vampire’s (Bela Lugosi) castle..

 AWARDS & KUDOS:

Upon its release in 1931, New York Times film critic Mordaunt Hall wrote that Dracula can “boast of being the best of many mystery films.” Since then, Dracula has won several awards in this century even though it was made and released in the last. It has won: the 2018 Online Film & Television Association Film Hall of Fame Award, the 2013 & 2018 Saturn Awards for  Best DVD/Blu-Ray Collection,  the 2006 Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Restoration, and the 2000 National Film Registry Award from the National Film Preservation Board, USA.

 OTHER COOL FACTS:

According to IMDB, Dracula is generally acknowledged for kickstarting the horror genre in Hollywood.

And another cool fact is Digging Star Wars isn't the only online entity celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Robotech. Our good friends at Robotech Novels & Stories are hosting multiple events that are simply fantastic. Their first event was the fan-voted Golden Gloval awards and my son Henry won the "Future of Fandom" award near the end of the show! This award show was so much fun and a family affair in my household. Here is the whole show - complete with Robotech characters winning various cool categories:

Thanks to Robotech Novels Universe and Robotech Stories for honoring Henry with his special award - the complete set of Robotech novels!

My son Henry and his Robotech "Future of Fandom" award - ALL of the Robotech novels!

 ROBOTECH REASON:

In McKinney’s books (pictured above with my son Henry), the Robotech character Rand is enthusiastic about not only saving humanity but its cultural past as well. Rand often compares his current adventures to 20th-century pop cultural products. In the TV series, he occasionally vocalizes an old movie title – but does a lot more so in the Robotech books.
