Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959)

A lot has been written about this cult classic. Labeled the "worst film ever made" by authors Harry and Michael Medved in their book The Golden Turkey Awards, the film went from obscurity to a must-see-bad-movie. We even have the Oscar-winning film Ed Wood (1994) to paint a better picture of its creation and creator. And, as Head Judge of the Museum of Science Fiction's Escape Velocity Film Festival, I'm proud to say we will be honoring the 60th Anniversary of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) with a Midnight screening on Saturday, May 25th.

But why do classic film fans keep returning to this piece of celluloid trash like a dog returning to its own vomit?

Probably because we're smart. As an INDEPENDENT article points out, screening 'trash' films is linked to high intelligence. How? Well, it comes down to analyzing the components of a poorly-made film and the enjoyment of an 'ironic screening'.

Or it may be because we've heard about it from a friend or one of the many pop culture references through the years - like on Mystery Science Theater 3000 or Seinfeld....

Whatever the reason, film geeks know it's fun to watch. We hope you join us in the wee hours post-Midnight Saturday to enjoy the film. Here's the trailer:
