40 Films in Robotech: One Touch of Venus (1948)

  

Jack McKinney’s mention of One Touch of Venus in the first Robotech book is one of my favorites, mainly because I had never seen it before, and it absolutely swept me off my feet…

 ROBOTECH MENTION:  

The following shot which mentions several films including One Touch of Venus (1948) is from Jack McKinney’s novelization Robotech: The Macross Saga - Genesis (1987)…

 SYNOPSIS:  

I like the “Lisa Hayes” synopsis above about One Touch of Venus being about “a statue of the goddess [that] comes to life and sings a song that weaves a spell of love over everyone.” Let’s leave it at that, but here’s a clip to give you a little more insight….

 AWARDS & KUDOS:  

The inclusion of One Touch of Venus in the 40 Films in Robotech very well may be the first award and/or kudos the film has officially received – which is sad since it’s such a fun picture.

 OTHER COOL FACTS:  

This film seems like the primary inspiration for the romantic comedy Mannequin (1987).

 ROBOTECH REASON:  

Minmei! Minmei! Minmei! Every time pop star Minmei sings in front of the alien Zentraedi invaders in Robotech, they swoon, faint, or become confused. The Earthlings often use this to their advantage, broadcasting her songs and live performances during battle. Here is the “final” (not really) battle in the Macross generation of Robotech…
