LEGAL and MISSION

Still from Chris Mich film MFL (1999). Available on YouTube.

Since my very first Digging Star Wars film post on The Hidden Fortress (1958) in 2010, my blog has clearly stated my legal approach to covering films and other works of art on our blog. However, my legal disclaimer was only in on-screen graphics and voiceover in Digging Star Wars YouTube posts – beginning with Hidden Fortress

A post from a fellow blogger (and my sister) Milissa Neirotti recommends various legal pages for bloggers including but not limited to health, fitness, finance, DIY/home improvement bloggers.

For the record, our disclaimer is:

Digging Star Wars is produced by Mich Media and has no connection to LucasFilm or Disney whatsoever. Copyrights for films, trademark characters and related materials discussed in Digging Star Wars remain with their respective owners. All materials are solely used for criticism, discussion and artistic interpretation based on the Fair-Use Laws of the United States. For a list of references or source material, please comment on this post.

From the beginning, Digging Star Wars started as an academic experiment and I decided early on to eliminate anything that would prevent visitors from enjoying our site. Pure art if you will. That is why there are no ads, no cookies, no gimmicks. And there never will be. Digging Star Wars is about me (and, hopefully, other film fans) discussing art, exploring new-to-you films, and just plain geeking out about Star Wars and many additional movies. While the blog has brought wonderful opportunities for me to participate in film discussions in museums, movie theaters, film festivals, online forums, conventions, podcasts, other blogs, and YouTube series, I never made a dime via my blog – or those events. This is not a “side hustle” but a volunteer labor of love and, simply put, a very fun hobby.

This October will mark the 15th Anniversary of Digging Star Wars. I’m not sure what’s next for the blog – but you will help decide its fate based on your participation and interests. As I’ve been saying since the Fall of 2010, please leave a comment below…and thanks for listening and reading.
